Project Type
Hospitality, Adaptive Re-Use
Location
Surry Hills, NSW
The Colombian Hotel, a well-established venue, undertook a major refurbishment. The existing ground and first floors had a general cosmetic upgrade with new finishes and fittings, whilst the second floor was demolished and transformed into a new outdoor rooftop bar with extensive views of Sydney’s CBD. The ground floor public bar was designed to respect the building’s original Art Deco identity. The use of warm timber panelling, new leather lounge seating and crisp white ceilings with moulding details drew inspiration from the building’s original art deco heritage and creates a welcoming ambiance. The second floor, previously used as a storeroom and office, was given a new life and transformed into a Hacienda-style rooftop bar offering patrons expansive city views. The new rooftop bar was designed as an all-year round venue with a new retractable roof offering wind/sun and rain protection.
