The Royal Oak Hotel is a local stalwart established in 1945. Our brief was to rejuvenate the pub with Art Deco vibrancy that drew inspiration from the Ocean liner aesthetic of its street façade. The pub would continue to provide for the locals whilst becoming a destination venue with wider appeal.
The heritage nature of the site provided welcome limitations that enabled a synthesis between the existing building fabric and the internal/ external alterations. The ground floor included a major renovation of existing spaces as well as the addition of a bistro which spilled out to a surrounding terrace. The first floor’s hotel rooms were demolished to incorporate a function space, Bar and terrace. The first floor was designed with a varied aesthetic to the main pub; more focused on showcasing raw and existing structure.
The pub was adorned with a rich pallet of materiality and texture, inclusive of rich marbles, brass detailing, and playful tiles. With dazzled senses, the patron is continually drawn through a variety of both intimate and communal spaces, making each visit a renewed experience.
