Headlands Coffee
Project Type
Hospitality, Adaptive Re-Use
Location
Summer Hill, NSW
Located in a heritage building in Sydney’s Summer Hill, this former flourmill has been converted into an offbeat industrial coffee roaster and café for Headlands Coffee.
Our approach was to restore as much of the original building fabric as possible; including brick walls, polished concrete flooring, and exposed timber ceiling. We contrasted this with sleek and minimalistic joinery including solid timber, raw steel, natural leathers and polished plaster.
The layout invites patrons to look in on the process of how coffee is made; with the industrial roaster area in an open-plan setting, and a large in-situ concrete bench which allows patrons to sit by the baristas.
Furniture, fixtures and art were carefully designed and selected to merge seamlessly into the interior, this paired-back approach created an inviting neighborhood space for both visitors and baristas.
